For most of our lives, we live in a state of high-functioning override. We become masters of the “power through.” We learn how to take our innermost selves, tuck them into a small box in the back of our minds, and keep going, because that’s what’s expected of us.
We’ve been conditioned to believe that this is “resilience.” We tell ourselves that if we just push a little harder, start a new protocol, or optimize our schedule, we will finally arrive at a place of balance. But balance is not a place you arrive at through force. Balance is a state you inhabit when you stop fighting the natural rhythm of your body.
It’s time to cut it out.
What actually happens when you stop powering through? The world doesn’t fall apart, though your nervous system will initially panic as though it might. When you stop the override, you’re greeted by the reality that you’ve been running from: the truth of how you actually feel.
This is the “uncomfortable truth” stage of reclamation. You feel the depth of your fatigue. You feel the weight of the years you’ve spent accommodating others. You feel any anger that you’ve suppressed to keep the peace.
Most women recoil from this stage. They interpret this return of feeling as a sign that they are “getting sicker” or “losing their grip.” But the opposite is actually happening. You are finally coming back online.
When you stop the machine-like output, you start to reclaim the inputs:
- The Return of Discernment: When the constant hum of “doing” stops, you can finally hear your own voice. You start to notice that some of the things you thought were “duties” were actually just habits you were free to drop all along.
- The Re-calibration of Energy: Fatigue is often the result of a life spent leaking power into situations that don’t deserve it. When you stop powering through, you stop the leak. You begin to see that your energy isn’t gone; it’s just been misdirected.
- The Emergence of the Queen: Power is not force. Power is the ability to move with intention. When you stop powering through, you move from force to flow. You start making decisions not because you have to, but because they align with your own internal authority.
Stopping the “powering through” mentality is a radical act of resistance in a culture that demands your invisibility. It’s not an indulgence. It’s the necessary work of becoming the woman you were always meant to be: the one who trusts her body, honours her own limits, and directs her own life.
